Exterior Cockpit and Deck
Shambhala is classically handsome; reminiscent of a Herreshoff design or the latter day Cherubini 44. The hull and cabin sides are so fair she is often mistaken for a fiberglass boat. The pilothouse is well integrated, easy to see over from the cockpit, and has an inside steering station for all-weather protection.
The decks are wide and unencumbered, and are finished with Awl-Grip non-skid. The hull and cabin house are finished with high-gloss off white Awl-Grip. A low maintenance 316 stainless steel caprail tops the high bulwarks which provide added security in a sea-way. The full length freeing ports allow any sea water that finds its way on deck to get overboard quickly without the worry and bother associated with deck scuppers and their attended plumbing. The clipper bow and flared entry keep her dry and sea kindly, while the wineglass transom, with its gradual buoyancy increase, keeps her motion predictable, and prevents hobby horsing
In the cockpit, the stainless steel binnacle is very substantial and houses a Danforth 6" 'Constellation' compass with red LED compass lights. The engine tachometer is located in a stainless steel box on the starboard binnacle leg and a Datamarine ‘Corinthian’ Sounder is mounted in a similar box on the port side leg.
There is bracketing and wiring on the binnacle which allows the the Garmin 5212 Chart Plotter to be easily be moved to the cockpit location when navigating in waterways or close to shore. A custom-made stainless steel cockpit table attaches to the front of the binnacle station and serves as a great place for relaxing and entertaining.
The entire cockpit is covered with a Sunbrella cover attached to a substantial stainless steel arch and forward bow hardware. Extra sunbrella shades provide complete cover for the cockpit area. Additional sunshades can be attached to the bimini frame for side protection. Teak seats cover three large lazarette storage areas. All lazarette covers are lightweight aluminum.
Four integrated stainless steel dorade boxes with with lexan tops provide ample air circulation in the cabin. Each fiberglass funnel is covered with a stainless steel safety rail that also serves as a handrail for movement on deck. Safety rails are provided on both sides of the main mast for security while raising, lowering or reefing sails.
